BLUETEC - Is a new initiative from Daimler Chrysler (later to be shared by Jeep, Audi and Volkswagen) to develop highly efficient passenger cars & SUVs with diesel engines which will meet the most stringent emmission regulations. The global outlook for diesel is for a steady increase in sales. In North America diesels are projected to account for 15% of new car sales by 2015.

Diesels are very fuel efficient saving 20-40% compared to comparable gasoline engines. They produce exceptional torque and have a very long engine lifespan. New technologies now exist to reduce diesel emmissions. One example is  AdBlue a water based additive which when injected into the exhaust gas causes ammonia to be released which in turn reduces the nitrogen oxides to harmless nitrogen and water in a downstream SCR catalytic converter.

Audi is also leading the way in diesel technologies having just won the 24 Hours of LeMans with their R10 TDI sports racing cars.  The Audi Q7 is rumoured to be slated for a 500HP V12TDi with 1,000 Newton Meters of torque.

Audi's Credo of  "Vorsprung durch Technik" or  "Leadership by Technology" will be the driving force behind a whole new generation of diesel powered vehicles for the future.
